Area Republican lawmakers blast Obama health care plan at rally

A few days after President Barack Obama pushed his health care reform plan to the nation, a group of DuPage County Republicans pushed back.

Three U.S. Representatives - Judy Biggert, Mark Kirk and Peter Roskam - spoke against the plan at a special health care rally held Saturday in Villa Park by the DuPage County Republican Party. Party chairman and state Sen. Dan Cronin said the event was a chance for suburban Republicans to make their voices heard as federal lawmakers debate the health-care bill.

"We cannot allow the Democrats to take away one of our most precious freedoms, the freedom to choose our own health care," Cronin, a candidate for DuPage County Board Chair, told the sign- and flag-waving crowd at the Odeum Sports and Expo Center.

Senator Cronin Remembers Patriot Day
remember-9-11-th200Every September 11th, the United States remembers Patriot Day in honor of the memory of the nearly 3,000 people who died in the senseless attack’s on the twin towers in New York.  This day of remembrance and reflection is also dedicated to the brave men and women who serve in our nation’s police and fire corps and all emergency workers and first responders.

Cronin: Digital textbook program will lighten students load
Springfield, Ill. – Sen. Cronin is looking to technology as a way to provide students and teachers with innovative alternatives to the standard textbook.

“Kids are carrying around book bags crammed with heavy text books, and I know there is a better way,” Cronin said. “Incorporating electronics, like digital textbooks, into a student’s daily routine would open up a whole new way to learn.” 

Cronin explained that digital textbooks are electronic versions of traditional print textbooks that are most commonly used in schools. However, the digital “books” provide the additional benefit of providing audio and video resources to better illustrate the lessons and improve the educational experience.
